Jūrkalne ir viena no gleznainākajām jūras piekrastēm Latvijā, kas lepojas ar skaistu smilšu pludmali un augstāko stāvkrastu Latvijā.

Diemžēl Jūrkalnes stāvkrasts ir vieta, kur labi novērojama spēcīga krasta erozija.

Krasta erozija jeb stāvkrasta nobrukumi Jūrkalnes pusē jau kļuvuši par regulāru parādību. Atkarībā no laikapstākļiem jūra pazudina lielākus vai mazākus zemes gabalus. Kopumā pēdējo trīs gadu laikā Labragā jūra aizskalojusi jau 20 metrus krasta līnijas.

Visaktīvāk šajā posmā krasts atkāpjas tieši pie Jūrkalnes ciema. Vidējais atkāpšanās ātrums  –  1 metrs gadā. Krasta šajā posmā atkāpjas jau ļoti ilgi. Pastāv viedoklis, ka pēdējo 5–7 tūkstošu gadu laikā tas ir noticis ar mainīgu ātrumu. 20. gs. beigās šajā posmā bija vērojams erozijas intensitātes pieaugums, kas pēdējo 10 gadu laikā ir mazliet aprimis.

Vērtība „C“ atklāsies, kad sapratīsi, kāds objekts redzams dotajās koordinātēs. Betona balsts (125), celms (113) vai kadiķis (118).

Var pieļaut, ka, līdz 2100. gadam ūdens līmenim Baltijas jūrā paaugstinoties par 1,0 m (šī gan ir ļoti pesimistiska prognoze), krasta reljefs uz to reaģēs ar straujāku atkāpšanos un kopējā 1 metra atbilstošā kompensējošā atkāpšanās varētu sasniegt 100–300 m (papildus jau tāpat notiekošajam). Jūras stāvkrasts ir ļoti nozīmīgs dabas daudzveidības elements un arī raksturo Latvijas ainavu.

In order to find out the coordinates of the "Jūrkalne Seashore Bluffs" cache, you need to visit the indicated locations, answer the questions, and solve the task.

Jūrkalne is one of the most picturesque seashores in Latvia, boasting a beautiful sand beach and the highest seashore bluffs in Latvia.

Unfortunately, Jūrkalne Seashore Bluffs is also a place where strong coastal erosion can be observed.

Coastal erosion or landslides have become a regular occurrence in Jūrkalne. Depending on the weather, the sea destroys larger and smaller portions of land. Overall, 20 metres of shoreline have been washed away by the sea in Labrags over the past three years.

The most drastic coastal erosion is happening right next to the village of Jūrkalne. On average, 1 metre of shoreline is lost per year. The shore has been receding for a long time in this section. There’s an assumption that this has been happening at different speeds for the past 5–7 thousand years. At the end of the 20th century, erosion of increased intensity could be observed in this section, but it has calmed down slightly over the past decade.

Value „C“ will present itself when you figure out what object can be seen at the given coordinates. Concrete post (125), stump (113) or juniper (118).

Now, head over to a historical monument at N 57 00.981 E 021 23.185.

It can be estimated that by 2100, with the water level in the Baltic Sea rising by 1.0 metre (though this is a very pessimistic forecast) the shore relief will react by receding at a faster pace and the total compensatory reduction of 1 metre could reach 100–300 m (in addition to what is already happening). The seashore bluff is a very important element of natural diversity and also characterises the Latvian landscape.

It is not only important to understand the processes that are happening, but also enjoy the dramatic and beautiful views that Jūrkalne has to offer!
