Geocache Description:

Vicksburg, Florida (not Mississippi) was once located here at the junction of HWY 77 and HWY 388. What remains today is a Ghost Town Without A Town.

During the 1920's this land was owned by the Vickers family and was called Vickersburg, later shortened to Vicksburg. There were over 75 men and their families living in Vicksburg and working the area's turpentine stills, crudely tapping 40,000 trees annually, big business in those times. Eventually they realised they could cut the trees down and make more money selling the lumber. By the 1930's the trees were gone and the town dried up.

The land was then sold to the Sale family who tried drilling for oil. They went bust and decided to try their hand at cotton and became one of the largest producers of cotton in Bay County.
