Agia Sofia (Saint Sofia) Church
The church of Agia Sofia, located in the edge of the same name settlement over Kardamyli, dominates the landscape. Agia Sofia is an eminent example of 17" century ecclesiastical architecture in Mani.
The church is the attainment of a specialized workshop with lot of experience in local porous stone carves. The interior surfaces are decorated with murals precisely dated to the year 1700 by an inscription. The cultural society of Kardamyli proceeded to reparation of the damaged roof, which was completed in 2008. The unusual "two-level" roofing of the dome evoked exceptional difficulties in the work process. However, the dome roof was restored in its original form.
