Iron chef Michael Symon was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1990. He was picked as one of the ten Best New Chefs by Food and Wine Magazine in 1998 and received a James Beard Award for Best Chef Great Lakes in 2009. Michael began cooking in high school after a broken arm ended his competitive wrestling aspirations. On Food Network he’s been on various shows including Dinner Impossible and Barbecue Brawl. He was also co-host of The Chew which aired on ABC from 2011-2018. His specialties are Mediterranean, Sicilian, and BBQ. His restaurants include Lola, Lolita, Roast, B Spot, Mabel’s BBQ, and Angeline.
