Amanda Freitag was born in Cedar Grove, New Jersey and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1989. She opened her first restaurant, Rise + Thyme, in Dallas, Texas in September 2020; it features American bistro-style foods. She competed on Iron Chef America where she lost to Bobby Flay by one point. She is a regular judge on Chopped and co-hosted American Diner Revival with Ty Pennington.
