Geocache Description:

DRIVE CAREFULLY.

The road to the river is winding and often requires slowing down and driving a bit off the asphalt to pass with the oncoming veichles. Also frequented by cyclists, agricultural vehicles like tractors etc. and pedestrians/animals.

You may run into wild animals as well (personally ran into a fawn and a rabbit on two separate occasions :)).

Near GZ is an official hunting area/feeding ground. You do not need to stray deep into the woods.

BYOP.

For some, the fastest connection between Samobor and Zaprešić for it shortens your trip by 17 kilometers, for others a great opportunity to spice up their travel by using a rather rare transport to cross the Sava river - the Medsave ferry is an unusual reminder of some older but practical times. It's one of the four remaining on river Sava. Besides, the Medsave ferry has been used as a gathering place for painters from both Samobor and Zaprešić during June "Ferry Watercolors" event.

Ferryman Ivan Vrančić will drop you off on the other side for a small fee whether you're a cyclist, driver or a simple tourist, offer you a good advice or chat about a specific topic. The ferry drags itself across the river with the help of a steel rope and for a moment, you can take a breather while staring at the scenery.

The ferry works Monday to Saturday from 6 am to 6 pm (18:00), from 7 am to 6 pm on Sundays and during the summer it prolongs it's ride because of the longer sunlight time. It only doesn't work if the water level is too high.

a short video on how it works and looks

Some more fun facts:

* All ferrymen's surnames are Vrančić, though they are not related! Also, they are all men although it used to be a women's job.

* In the 70's, Tito's Relay (Štafeta mladosti) also used the ferry!

* The ferry was also the location of many cult TV shows like Kuda idu divlje svinje, Smogovci,...
