In 2017, the city of Decatur purchased this land, that was historically occupied by the 'United Methodist Children’s Home' for 144 years. The purchase — 77 acres in total, including green space and historic buildings — allowed the City to preserve the property for public enjoyment and funded an endowment that now supports the Methodist program to provide in-home foster care in support of at-risk youth.
The park is still in development but has created a unique environment with a florishing community garden, a very dog friendly set of trails and a small playground.
Our dog Ozzy loves it here, as he has a chance to run around. This area can still be rough in certain places and so expect pieces to be muddy on rainy days.
Stick to the trails as the cache is only a 15 feet from an open space and trail. Once you are close, it should be an easy find with the hint. If you try a different approach, you will most likely find yourself blocked by hidden fences or water.
