Geocache Description:

Wlotzkas is a unique town halfway between Swakopmund and Hentiesbay which few people know of. On their way to fishing, people drive past without taking notice, most are too much in a hurry to get to where they are going. They know Henties, and they know Swakop, but they miss the in-between.

Henties is known for the quirky names on their houses, while Swakop is known for its distinct German architecture. This halfway town is completely unique. The uniqueness comes from the fact that there are nearly no fences, every house has a tower for water, and most have flagpoles. The houses are colourful and the 'sound of silence' is ever-present.

Wlotzka was placed on the Geocache map by 2 caches in the desert, ‘Wlotzka Desert Rocks’ and ‘Mount Wlotzka’. These 2 are a way away from town and hopefully, this cache will help some travelers slow down and smell the roses, so to speak, in town.

I have wanted to make a cache for the town of Wlotska since I found my first cache, but procrastination is real, and finally, I sat down to build my cache. (I have a new respect for people who build models). And at last, after many years of procrastination, my cache is built and cachers can slow down in Wlotskas, explore this fisherman’s town while looking for the cache. After finding it, drive through town to see the unconventionally painted homes and flags and make your way west toward the coast to see the ‘ Baken’ that gave this town part of its name.

The cache should be obvious to cashers, open and replace log sheet carefully as the small pieces can be fragile. Bring your own pen. Please don’t place any spoiler images, as it is already obvious when you stand in front of it. It is not in anybody’s yard, so you don’t have to worry about trespassing, and both me and my neighbor will watch out for cachers.

Hope you enjoy our town and this halfway stop.
