Geocache Description:

29 April 2022, 19:30 - 20:15

🇭🇷

🇬🇧

Ancient legal documents, as well as Zvonimir’s deed of donation
written on the Baška tablet, all began with the letter A-alpha, and
ended with the ring O-omega.

These symbols indicated the great importance and uniformity of
this important legal document. By respecting the Baška tablet’s
characteristics, which was the main motivation for the Sinjali
Association to form the Baška’s Glagolitic alphabet trail, the Trail too
begins with the Glagolitic A-alpha and end s with the ring O-omega.

As this event marks the end of our holiday in Baška, it´s only appropriate to use this very location for a hopefully fine view of the sunset in Baška bay.
Be free to attend this little event to meet us, macrophage, baerentöeterin and uimjj from Styria, Austria - after a week of turning lots of rocks searching for caches - before we have to head back home the next day.

🇦🇹

About the Sculpture:
The relief engraved on the Istrian stone tablet, with dimensions of 280x280 cm, with a depth of 26 cm and a weight of 4.5 tons is located on the Stara riva (Old waterfront) reconstructed in 1857.
A wind rose has been engraved in the relief with the names of the winds which mostly blow in the Baška area: bura, levant, jugo, oštro, lebić, pulenat, maestral and tramuntana have been written in the Glagolitic alphabet.
The ring in the relief is the letter omega with which both the Baška Glagolitic alphabet trail and the Baška tablet ends. This Greek letter dominates the centre of the relief with the universal Ω. This omega letter turned towards the valley symbolically defends and protects it and once more closes a full circle with it, being a symbol of infinity and eternity.
Sculptor: Ljubo de Karina, academic sculptor
Location: Stara riva
