Cette cache a été posée en collaboration avec l’organisme Loisirs & Culture Sud-Ouest dans le cadre d'une activité d'initiation au Géocaching pour la communauté locale. Cet organisme a pour mission de promouvoir les loisirs, les sports et les activités culturelles dans la région du Sud-Ouest de l’île de Montréal dans une organisation souple, efficace et adaptée aux besoins de la population.
Afin d'offrir une expérience de géocaching amusante, cette cache traditionnelle a été mise en place afin de faire explorer le secteur à nos concitoyens, ainsi que nos géocacheurs qui viendront visiter notre beau quartier.
Cette cache vous permet de visiter un lieu bien actif dans la communauté, soit le Carré d'Hibernia. À la fin du 19ème siècle, plusieurs terres du secteur Pointe-Saint-Charles appartenaient à Robert Knox, et plusieurs rues environnantes furent nommées en référence à des lieux en Irlande, terre d'origine de la famille Knox. Le mot Hibernia représente en latin l'île d'Irlande.
Le Carré d'Hibernia, connexe au Parc-Saint-Gabriel, offre plusieurs installations de loisirs tels qu'une pataugeoire, une patinoire, un terrain de baseball, un terrain de pétanque ainsi qu'un terrain de jeux pour enfants.
La surveillance et l’animation d’activités se déroulant dans ce parc sont assurées par l’organisme Loisirs & Culture Sud-Ouest.

This cache was placed in collaboration with the organization Loisirs & Culture Sud-Ouest for an activity introducing Geocaching to local population. This organization's mission is to promote leisures, sports and cultural activities in the south-west region of the island of Montréal in a flexible and efficient organization adapted to the needs of the population.
To offer an entertaining geocaching experience, this traditional cache was created to make our local citizens explore the area, and invite our fellow geocachers to visit our nice neighbourhood.
This cache allows you to visit a well attended location in the community, the Hibernia Square. At the end of the 19th century, a large area of the Pointe-Saint-Charles neighborhood belonged to Robert Knox, and many names of the the surrounding streets reference to locations in Ireland, land of origin of the Knox family.
The Hibernia Square, connected to the Parc-Saint-Gabriel, offers multiple recreation installations such as a wading pool, an ice rink, a soccer and baseball court, a pétanque field and a children's playground.
Surveillance and activities happening in this park are provided by Loisirs & Culture Sud-Ouest.
