The Milton Fire Tower is located atop Bowling Green Mountain, which is a high massif with multiple ridges, ravines, and sub-summits branching out from a high point at 1380'. The Milton Station Fire Tower was constructed in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps under the Woodlands Protective Expansion Project. The fire tower is 80 feet tall, and is an International Derrick tower with a 7'x7' cab. It is one of the tallest fire towers in New Jersey. The Milton Fire Tower is considered a key tower in the northern New Jersey region since it can easily see the seven other fire towers within the division along with the Sterling Fire Tower which is the last remaining active fire tower in New York. From the top, you can see as far away as High Point and the skyline of the city.
Along the way you'll pass through what was once the Snow Bowl. The Snow Bowl was a ski resort than operated from the mid-1960's to the mid-1970's. It had two double chairs, rope tows, 11 slopes and trails, and much more. Traces of the Snow Bowl are still visible, including the old slopes and remnants of the chair lift. The 1973-74 season was its last since the next year had an unusually warm winter and in 1976 while in bankruptcy, it was struck by vandals and fire.
