Geocache Description:

Welcome to The North Arm Series:  The Entrance Walk

This is a fabulous walk to the man-made Entrance that can be accessed by crossing the Footbridge at the Myer Street section of town.  This is a 5 km return walk and it will bring you out at the remains of Carpenter Town, the New Works area and The Entrance.  The posted co-ordinates will bring you to Way Point 1 - the start of The Entrance Walk just below the Cafe at the Lakes Entrance Surf Lifesaving Club.

The Entrance Walk has been steadily developed over many years and has been made over a combination of sandy tracks, board walks and stairways through the centre of the sand dunes that separate Bass Strait from Cunningham Arm and the township of Lakes Entrance.  On this Walk, instead of walking through the Dunes on the way back, you could walk along either the Ocean edge or Lake edge.    The Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association are in the process of setting up information signs and viewing platforms along the track and just recently, a Relics Loop Walk was established at the Entrance.   There is also a Boardwalk that runs along the top edge of the Entrance and is a great viewing platform to watch life within the Entrance itself.  You may be treated to a display of sychronized swimming by either the resident Gippsland Lakes Burrrunan Dolphins or from the seals that often sunbaking on the western side of The Entrance.  The Gippsland Ports' "Tommy Norton" dredge may be working clearing sand from around The Entrance to assist in keeping the area open.   The view from Flagstaff is pretty good also.  Did you know?:  Gippsland Ports have a live, 24/7 webcam on top of Flagstaff  (https://www.gippslandports.vic.gov.au/boating/webcams/lakes-entrance-flagstaff/).

A little history:  The Entrance was constructed in the 1880s to provide a permanent opening from Bass Strait to the Lakes allowing easier access for fishing boats and other shipping.  Remnants of the tramway used to transport stone around the Entrance as well as some of the construction equipment can still be seen in the New Words Historic Precinct. Cottages built to house the construction workers and now used as family holiday homes are also a feature of this area.

To find the cache container, you will need to read several signposts along the Walk to gather information to answer seven questions.  Once you have your seven answers, you will need to carry out a few very simple calculations to find the information needed to take you to G.Z.

** The Cache:   you are searching for a nice, large, 1 litre screw top container.  Please hide it exactly as you find it so that stays well hidden.  There are a few swaps available.
