Geocache Description:

Otama's pond is...

In 1702, a teenage girl named Otama tried to escape from places that were her forced to work in Edo (now Tokyo) to her parents' home in Izu, but she didn't have a ticket for the checkpoint.  She was therefore unable to pass through Hakone.  She then she tried to break the barrier through the fence in the surrounding mountains without passing through the barrier, but she was captured by the guard of the barrier and decapitated and executed two months later.  Later, there was a legend that she washed her neck at "Nazunagai Pond (former name of otama's pond)".  For that reason, it came to be called "Otama's pond".
