This is another in my It's A Classic series. You will need to match the pictures below with the corresponding members of Grateful Dead.
The Grateful Dead were officially formed in 1965. The band is known for its eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, blues, rock and roll, gospel, reggae, world music, and psychedelia; for live performances of lengthy instrumental jams that typically incorporated modal and tonal improvisation; and for its devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads"
They performed regularly until Garcia's death in 1995. Their live performances spawned a cult-like following of Deadheads. During the early 70's their setup used what was called the "wall of sound," developed by Owsley Stanley, better known for his LSD manufacturing abilities. This setup included the use of two microphones, with one set to be out of phase in order to cancel the other one. By singing into one of the microphones, it would capture the vocals, while any feedback, normally a big problem for live performances, was canceled out by the fact that it affected both microphones. This is really the principle of our modern noise-cancelling devices.
