Christmas stew takes on a whole new, flavorful definition in Ethiopia. The Christmas "wat" in Ethiopia is a spicy, thick stew made from meat, vegetables and eggs. When it comes time to enjoy, the stew is ladled onto a plate of flat, sourdough bread known as "injera." The injera is used to spoon the stew into the mouth.
