Blue Hawaiian - Blue Switch/Hawaiian Lei Day

Blue Switch Day - May 2, 2000 is an important date in geocaching lore... Before this day, accurate GPS technology was only selectively available. On May 2, 2000 the U.S. government flipped the switch and Selective Availability was turned off, suddenly making accurate GPS technology available to all. We’re celebrating the 22nd anniversary of this day with a brand new Blue Switch Day souvenir! It is available between April 30 and May 2nd this year! Come on by and get yours!

But did you know that May 1st is Hawaiian Lei Day? Held on May 1 each year, May Day is a statewide celebration of the aloha spirit and the giving of the flower lei. A famous song captures the essence of May Day best, “May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii, garlands of flowers everywhere, all of the colors in the rainbow, maidens with blossoms in their hair.” So this just READS for a Blue Hawaiian celebration event! Come and meet me down by the water in BLUE or your best TROPICAL attire (optional suggestions). There is limited parking at the Sapperton Park Landing, so you are definitely encouraged to carpool to the parking areas. A simple meet and greet. Come on by and enjoy the Fraser River and each others company...

The Blue Hawaii is a tropical cocktail made of rum, pineapple juice, Blue Curaçao, sweet and sour mix, and sometimes vodka. It should not be confused with the similarly named Blue Hawaiian cocktail that contains creme of coconut instead of sweet and sour mix. Either are delicious, frankly. I may just be looking at my bar supplies to celebrate! (No alcohol consumption is permitted at the park!)
