Looking overhead towards the bay, stands a busy Osprey nesting platform.
As its diet consists of fish alone, this location close to the Bay of Quinte and in Potter's creek is prime real estate. Having the ability to close its nostrils, a hunting Osprey will fearlessly dive into the water in hopes of catching a meal.
The creek opening you see reaches back past the Canadian Pacific Railway and into the thickly vegetated north side of Potter's Creek. It is one of numerous water courses that drain into the Bay of Quinte, carrying with it the runoff from the surrounding land.
The Potter's Creek inlet is a still break from the open waters of the Bay, making it a sanctuary for a variety of plants and wildlife.
Along the trail, waterfowl can often be seen cruising the shoreline for food, or taking a break on land. The most common being Canada Geese, Mallard ducks, Great Blue Herons, and Mute Swans. A keen eye might reveal some more rare species present in our area.
