CITO 🌏 Cleaning up Towers Hill Cache In Trash Out® Event

Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Since 2002, CITO has helped preserve the natural beauty of cache-friendly spaces.

Twice per year, geocachers can earn virtual souvenirs by attending events during the CITO seasons. Season 1 officially kicked off on the 1st of March so here is your chance to do something good for the environment and also earn a souvenir in case you haven't done so already.

Towers Hill is the heart of Charters Towers and has an excellent variety of geocaches to offer. Remains of the past can be found everywhere across this hill, which includes ruins of old mining buildings, and WWII bunkers. Some of those have been made publicly available with informative boards. From the parking area at the foot to the Pyrite Ruins at the top it is fully pathed, allowing a save exploration of this magnificent area. Beyond this, an unpathed walkway allows to complete the circle back to the parking area.

For this CITO we will meet at the parking area at the foot of the hill (posted coordinates) at 6:45AM. This early start allows to escape the sun, since there is almost no shade on this hill. From the parking area we will be walking up the hill along the path and collect trash, which particularly near the tourist highlights (see waypoints) can be found. Depending how much and quickly trash will be accumulated, we will either return from the top of the hill back along the paved way (red) or make the full circle along the unpaved way (blue).
