The Quokka, Setonix brachyurus, is on the endangered list and had an estimated population of about 20,000 as of 2021.



The Quokka is often referred to as "the happiest animal in the world", by humans. They are very friendly and are a big tourist attraction. Also known as the short-tailed scrub wallaby, its a small macropod about the size of a domestic cat and is native to Western Australia. It is the only member of the genus Setonix. Like other marsupials in the macropod family, the quokka is herbivorous and mainly nocturnal.
