This cache overlooks the ghost town of Ayer Washington. The entire town of Ayer was relocated by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1967 to prepare for the building of the Lower Monumental Dam which would flood the old town. When the town was relocated, 100 families moved into the newly built houses higher up the hill. By 1972 the train stop which had drawn people to the town had closed and half the families had moved out.
What happened next is unknown. There are no further newspaper articles on Ayer and online searches come up empty. What makes this ghost town unique is the condition of the houses. While all the houses are boarded up and very much not lived in, most are still standing and full of belongings that arent commonly left behind. Kids toys were left in yards, food was left in cupboards, piles of family photos left behind, and more. Some even have modern tech ammenities that had to of been put in within the last 20 years. It almost appears the last families living here left in a hurry. But why? With no cell service within miles of the old ghost town of Ayer, it sure does paint an eerie picture.
The town of Ayer is now privetely owned and fenced off. Please come and enjoy the view from the cache site then drive by to take a look at the eerie houses and let your imagination run wild but please don't tresspass into the town itself. There was a video posted to youtube a few years back of a tour of the town before it was fenced off. Take a look at it if you wanna see the condition of the houses inside.

This letterbox should be a quick park and grab at a great place to overlook the whole town. There is room for a car to pull off this non-busy road but there may not be enough room for a Large Truck or RV. There are larger pulloffs not to far from the cache site if needed.
