A vast mill pond was previously located behind the Rising Sun Mills, and came right up to this wall prior to being filled in 1955 to create the parking lots below. Today, a short segment of the Woonasquatucket River Greenway begins here at the end of Sonoma Ct, continues behind the Rising Sun Mills, across the river and passed the dam, and ends in Donigian Park at Valley St. You can view a fish ladder built at the dam if you exit the greenway into the parking lot prior to crossing the bridge into the park. This off-road spur of the WRG opened in 2014, and was designed to divert bike traffic off of Valley St. It may eventually be connected to the WRG spur created on San Souci Dr in 2019, or more likely the current on-road bike route along Delaine St may be redeveloped to include dedicated bike ways. The city has already begun separating the bike traffic along the final stretch up Manton Ave, to connect with the original off-road bike path and greenway which currently end at Riverside Park.
Please remember to be aware of muggles, use stealth, and replace CC carefully so that it remains accessible to future cachers!
Greenway Hours: Sunrise – Sunset
Parking: There is some street/sidewalk parking on Sonoma Ct, or consider Valley St if you plan to walk the greenway to my other nearby caches. DO NOT leave your car unattended in the Rising Sun Mills lots!
