In the 1990s Haixinsha Island had a cluster of warehouses in the west, greenhouse-protected fields in the middle and some housing in the east. Nothing changed up to 2006, but in 2007 the western tip of the island was cleared and replaced with smaller temporary-construction-worker-housing structures indicating that change was on the way. Sure enough, by 2009 the entire central and western sides of the island had been demolished and cleared and construction was underway for the coming Asian Games facilities. By 2010 the Asian Games opening ceremony stadium had been built.
The tower structure here at the cache location feels historical but wasn't even built for the 2010 Asian Games. It was built in December 2011. A pier was added on the south-east coast of the island along with some landscaping improvements but otherwise the east of the island (海心沙亚运公园-东区) has remained off-limits to the general public.
