I have only recently come to appreciate that words, like plants, also have roots. In fact, discovering the digital roots for words can distill meaning from obscurity. It is an odd way to value a word, and who knew that "yell" can equal "quiet", or that any word (or combination of words) can resolve to a single digit from 1 to 9? As explained in an online resource that is useful to have in your puzzle toolbox "A value is assigned to each character and those values are summed and sometimes summed again to end up with only one digit, the latter is sometime called the row sum method or digital root."
