We were finishing a trip to southern New Hampshire in the 1880s. As we were getting ready to leave, I slipped on a wet, leave covered rock and hit my leg pretty hard. It hurt a lot. At first I didn’t realize how bad it was. It cut wasn’t big, but it was deep, and it did bleed. I was going to get it checked out when we got home. Our doctor has told us more than once that if we need medical treatment to come home and do not seek medical help in the 1800’s.
Well, the trip home seemed to take longer than I expected. Unlike the fiction you see in movies, we do not instantly move from one place/time to another. The reality is that, just like it takes time to travel physical distance, it takes time to travel time. So this trip was going to take a while.
Along the way, SouthJerseyTrails thought it best that we stop and have this taken care of. I’m not sure if he was looking out for me or just wanted an excuse to stop and find a store with a hat. Yes, the hat is still talked about, and no, we did not find a store.
We stopped around 1980. We figured this would be modern enough. Within a couple of miles we found an emergency room. Luckily it wasn’t far because I was limping along.
Everything was taken care fairly quickly. When we left, we explored a bit, checking out the heliport. On the way out, we stopped and hid a cache. I don’t recall the exact spot; somewhere around N39 XX.X95, W74 XX.X02. The area’s changed a bit but the cache should still be good. Let us know if you find it.
