Come celebrate Blue Switch Day
Saturday 30th April 2022
9:00 am - 9:30 am
The Esplanade Sheringham
Our lives would be very differnet if we didnt have GPS technology. We wouldnt have Satalite navigation and we wouldnt have geocaching. However we do have both thanks to Blue Switch Day.
On May 2nd 2000 – 22 years ago – the US Government flipped a switch that allowed anyone with a GPS to accurately find their location. This made personal GPS units more accurate than they had been and helped create fun activities like geocaching. In fact, the very first geocache was hidden on May 3, 2000 hidden by Dave Ulmer in Oregon and the beginning of the game that we know today . Was the switch blue? Who knows! But “Blue Switch Day” has been celebrated ever since.
This geocaching event will be held near the shelters on the Esplanade overlooking the Leys gardens, so come and have a natter, celebrate this day and earn yourself the Blue Switch Day Souvenir.
From April 30 through to May 2 you can earn the Blue Switch Day 2022 souvenir by finding a geocache, adventure or by attending an Event
