Here you will find 1,000 white pines trees planted in the Peace Memorial Grove. Each serving as a living tribute to honor a loved one. In the center of the grove is a resting place with a peace pole inscribed with words “May Peace Prevail on Earth”.
In the early 1800’s the six different Iroquois tribes were fighting with one another. There were fierce battles, but the tribes grew tired of the fighting. So they agreed to bury their weapons under a giant white pine tree (burying the hatchet) and united to create the Iroquois League. The white pine tree has since been nicknamed the “Tree of Peace”.
