Geocache Description:

This is a resurrection (more or less) of GC7864 (Mason Multi) which has been gone since 2006. That was the very first cache I ever found, well before I got an account and started collecting caches in earnest.

For Christmas 2003, I received a GPSr as a gift from my family. That afternoon my younger daughter and I were bored out of our respective gourds looking for something to do. Maybe we could try the new GPS? (I called it the wrong thing in those days.) Knowing vaguely that there was this thing called "geocaching", I did a little web surfing (on Altavista yet!) and discovered there was a cache not too far from us. So we were off! At that time I could not have told you what a waypoint was, much less how to set one, so we followed the satellite screen to S1 and watched the numbers get closer to what we needed. Same thing on S2, but maybe just a little faster because of experience. Having no idea what were looking for or how caches can be hidden, life got interesting until about the point of giving up, whereupon we found the silly thing.

Fast forward to now and I was telling someone the story about the original cache. It was suggested I might want to reprise it for the NoVAGO Spring event. The coordinates from the original had to be adjusted slightly to account for what locations had been approved by the Park Authority and because the location for the final was no longer there. I came close, but those of you who remember the original will (hopefully) recall the general area.

All stages are reasonably close to paths, so everything should be fairly quick. No issues with kids, although we do request you take them home with you when you leave.

My usual FTF thing is probably inappropriate for this one and when it is released. Try and bring someone with you who has not gotten a FTF yet so we can share the wealth. I cannot enforce this; I can only ask gently.

And since this is a Northern Virginia cache, the usual warnings apply: heed all signs, be careful on slopes after a rain (they can get slippery), and don't eat too much at the picnic.

The locations for each stage were approved by the Park Authority. This is a County Park, so only go looking for this one while it is light. Really.
