Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

National Scrabble Day is April 13 every year. I decided to celebrate this year with a geocache puzzle. You will have to solve the puzzle below to find the coordinates to this cache.

Above is a ScrabbleTM game board with the rows and columns labeled. Make sure that you read the official rules and understand scoring. All words I have used in this puzzle are in the Merriam-Webster Official SCRABBLE Players Dictionary. The letter tiles used are those in the default English set, but no blank tiles were used. Check the FAQ for the number of each letter tile available.

To solve this geocaching puzzle, follow the game below.  Each turn will be given with the starting square of the word and direction of play, in square brackets; number of letters in the word played (not tiles played), in brackets; the score for the play, in parenthesis; and possibly some additional hints.

Exceptions are that the scores for the final two plays are not given. This is because those scores are what you are looking to solve. In order to find those scores you will need to have filled in at least some of the other words, so you might as well fill them all in.

As an example, I will give you the first word. "BEGGARS" is played horizontal starting at G8. It is a 7-letter word. The values of the letters are 3+1+2+2+1+1+1=11. 'R' is on a double letter space, so 11+1=12. Word is on a double word space, so that 12 is doubled to 24. All 7 of the player's letters were used, so a "bingo" is scored for an additional 50 points. The total is 74 points for this play.

  1. [G8⇨] {7} (74) Penniless persons
  2. [G5⇩] {6} (14) Count

Congratulations to Dix1, Del2u and runninbear1 for being first to find.

2024 Mar 22: The links I provided to the rules and FAQ on the Hasbro site lead to elsewhere now. They do have a PDF to download, but I haven't checked it out. Read here for how to play.
