Geocache Description:

Coast to Coast
Interaction with the land Kiwi Style. The "Coast to Coast" is an iconic New Zealand multisport event. It has become almost a right of passage for multisport athletes from around the world. Bike, kayak & run from Kumara Beach on the West Coast of the South Island to New Brighton Beach in Christchurch on the East Coast.

On almost any day of the year except that one day in February you'll find the start line deserted but for the local wild life. Find the cache, bring a picnic, find yourself a possie on the beach and enjoy!

Held every February, the race traverses the width of the South Island, crossing the main divide.

Robin Judkins founded the event in 1983 when just 25 hardy souls took on the 243km challenge over two days. The look and feel of the race was considerably more relaxed than today. One of the bikes even had a baby seat and there was a kayak made of canvas.

These days there are different options. They range from a one day event, to two day, two day tandem and school events. You can also just tackle the famous mountain run section when the two day competitors are on the mountain section of the course.
