This is a structure I found while working on a geoarcheology project in the Markworth Forest. The moment I laid eyes on it I started thinking of its purpose! The structure appears like it was intended to hold back water as a dam of some sort or perhaps a flume to convey water to another location or perhaps there was an attempt to generate electricity from this small stream. Some discussion was had on the previous cache page about its function and age.. but who knows?! Not Me.
Give me your best guess as to when, why and by whom this was built and we may be able to solve a mystery.
The Markworth Forest is a working forest so you may encounter active logging operations. Its also used by hunters. Its also the home of much wildlife.
Its been noted that the concrete flume has voids in the bottom so don't go walking blindly on the structure. THe cache is placed on the North side of the structrue which should be on the LEFT if you are facing upstream from the bridge. The cache is placed along side the upper tier.
There is an interesting TB with a very specific very technical and difficult goal inside.
