Wombats are muscular, short-legged quadrapeds native to Australia. They are found in forests, mountains and heathland of Australia. They were mistakenly called badgers by early settlers and have various spellings of their name because of the dialectal difference in the Darug language. Their diet consists of grasses, sedges, herbs, bark and roats and small rodents. They poop is cubic in shape. They give birth and keep their young in their backwards pouch. They typically live up to 15 years in the wild, but some as old as 30 years in captivitiy. They dig an extensive burrow system.
