Geocache Description:

This cache was placed to celebrate BVPete's 75th Birthday. Happy Birthday Peter! We've been best friends and hiking buddies for almost 13 years now and its great to see him still making regular trips to the moutain trails. I look forward to our future adventures in the backcountry.

BVPete on Horton Hill East - November 2021

While out on a recent hike to High Noon Hills, Peter pointed over at a nearby hill and mentioned that it was likely the only hill north of the Sheep River that he had yet to ascend in the area. Those that know Peter well, are aware that he's been on most of the local mountain trails and placed some excellent caches for us to find. I've be thinking of places to put a cache to celebrate his 75th birthday and decided what better place than a hill he hasn't yet visited. In his honour, we'll call this unamed hill, Peter's Hill from this point forward!

Please read the suggested route info below to avoid fence issues!

The trip to the summit is a short offtrail adventure of 420 m with an elevation gain of 95 m. Recommended parking coodinates are provided at the Macabee Ridge Trailhead where there is room to park on the shoulder on either side of the road. Proceed about 60 metres up the Macabee trail until you pass through the opening in the barbwire fence. This will put you at the provided gate coordinates where you will see a barbwire gate on your left. If you started going downhill, you went too far. Open the gate, pass through and close the gate behind you! This is not private property as it's Kananaskis Country public land. To avoid most of the deadfall, hike along the north side of the fence about 70m until you reach the provided ascent point coordinates. From here, head straight up through the open forest to the summit of Peter's Hill. Enjoy the views after tracking down the cache! Upon return to the gate, please close it again after passing back through!

Recommended Route

As always, remember you are in the back country and come prepared for varied terrain, weather and possible animal encounters. Bear spray is strongly recommended. Let people know where you are going and if possible, try not to travel alone.

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park anywhere in Kananaskis Country!
