Geocaching com set the bi-annual CITO event period this spring from 1st March - 31st May 2022 inclusive so that many geocachers all over the world could gather together to show their appreciation for all the pleasure obtained when roaming our world looking for various plastic pots and other containers whilst geocaching. This combines with the UK's National Spring Clean 2022, although I have just realised that this was scheduled for March 2022, oops!
CITO simply stands for Americanised Cache-in-and-Trash-Out, in other words a chance to volunteer to pick up rubbish that gets dropped, blown or dumped to spoil our countryside and probably also cause injury to our wildlife.
Everyone including children and dogs are VERY welcome to attend this CITO event - we will meet outside Chudleigh Town Hall at the above coordinates by 10.30 am for the required but short introductory safety introduction and to equip ourselves with litter pickers and plastic bags for the collected litter. We will then divide into small groups, one to each of the listed waypoints within the town [though 3 waypoints are a short drive away], with the hope that we will make a difference! Around 12.00 noon we will re-assemble again outside the Town Hall to return equipment and have a group photo with hopefully lots of filled rubbish bags - and I will have a supply of chocolate bars or similar to thank everyone for coming and participating! By attending and logging your attendance, you will automatically have earnt the CITO 2022 Season 1 profile souvenir!
Please note the waypoint for the P&D nearby carpark - parking is difficult in Chudleigh so please use this facility.
Apologies for not arranging a CITO Season 1 event earlier this year but my usual contact at Clinton Estates in East Devon was very involved in a big project, and sadly had to decline my offer this time. Fingers crossed for CITO Season 2 later this year!
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SAFETY OR GARDEN GLOVES, LATEX GLOVES OR SIMILAR IF YOU HAVE ANY, AS WELL AS HANDWIPES. I will also have covid-suitable handwipes as well as the log book!
FINALLY On Saturday mornings there is a regular farmers' market outside the Town Hall which is frequented by many shoppers, so PLEASE GATHER CLOSE TO THE 'FINE PAIR' [ie 2 red phone boxes]!
