This is a traditional letterbox cache – it is at the listed co-ordinates. Note there is a section of gravel road required to reach the cache.
A local community is defined as a group of interacting people living in a common location. No matter if you live in a village, town, or city there are places which allow groups to get together for a variety of public and private functions, such as:
- Meetings
- Polling station for local and national elections
- Sports club functions
- Local drama productions
- Dances
- Jumble sales
- Private parties such as birthdays or wedding receptions
With the dwindling populations in rural areas there is a reduction in the use of a number of Community Halls, resulting in a lot of them falling into disrepair.
In 2019, members of the Hindon community got together to save hall in a bid to strengthen the community spirit in the rolling hill country west of the Taieri River.
Hindon Community Centre president Chris Adams, speaking at a Strath Taieri Community Board meeting in Middlemarch last week, said the Hindon Hall was ``derelict'' and the community spirit in the settlement, about 30km northwest of Mosgiel, was declining. (Otago Daily times 2019)
Successful fundraising annual events are held to cover the rates and ensure the 'lights can stay on'.
It will be great to see in logs photos of how they are progressing. To ensure the cache/cachers do not cause any issues to the improvements, this cache is not placed under the hall building (like many others), it is in the nearby road verge.
