Holy Spirit Church, Newtown

The borough of Newtown was created in 1256 and originally there was a church dedicated to St Mary Magdalene. Unfortunately, a French invasion in 1377 caused much destruction. Newtown’s population began to dwindle and by the mid 1600’s the church was in ruins with fewer than a dozen occupied houses in the area.
The church that stands now, dedicated to the Holy Spirit, was built in 1836 and consecrated the following November.
