A mate and I decided a few nights ago over a couple of drinks, that one way to get through winter, was to play golf.
Southland has many country golf courses, that neither of us have played at, 9 holes at each should be a lot of fun.
Today was match number 1, and Dipton was the destination.
Hole number one, a par 5 named Bastian, my mate played the 2nd fairway while dodging the trees... I played straight, but still lost the hole, 8 to 6.
Hole number 2, he lost his tee shot out of bounds, I played straight. 8 all.
The course was apparently closed and lacking maintenance, but that didn't stop us.
Ironically, my best holes were Toogood and The Rock (my favourite radio station), scoring 2 over par on each.
My worst hole, was called the Elbow, I scored a Moose (10), and he lost 2 balls, beating me with a 9.
It was an enjoyable morning, although ruined by a little white ball, and a walk up and over a lot of hills.
For the record, I lost 53 to 66.
Watch out Riverton, Tokanui, and Hedgehope... here we come!
