Current below-ground station (2014)
Rebuilt premium station (1996)
Original station (1882)
Mitcham Railway Station is located on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines in Victoria, Australia (not to be confused with the two other Mitcham stations located in South Australia and England). The station opened on 25 December 1882 and after 114 years was rebuilt as a premium station, opening on 4 April 1996.
Eighteen years later Mitcham station was again rebuilt, this time as part of the grade separation project to replace the Mitcham Road and Rooks Road level crossings, and became a below-ground station, opening on 25 January 2014.
Up until the 1970s, a shunting yard and goods shed existed where the southern car park exists today. The layout included tracks within the car park, so that parking was possible whenever trains weren’t using the yard.
