Geocache Description:

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. A GPS enabled device provides geolocation and time informaion to a GPS receiver anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.  Obstacles such as mountains and buildings or even tree cover can block a GPS signal.

We rely on GPS in our daily lives more than we even realize and it has actually changed the world around us; but us civilians haven't always had access to GPS.  In the United States, the military was the only entity with access to this technology until May 2, 2000 when the U.S. government “flipped the switch” on selective availabilty and made GPS available to us all.  This day is known in the geocaching world as Blue Switch Day and it’s no coincidence that the first geocache was hidden one day later, on May 3, 2000, the day geocaching was born!

Parking is available at Clovelly Golf Course or just off Torbay Road via the narrow grassy driveway of the vaccant lot that is next door to the small white house.  A TOTT is required to open this cache but YOU WON'T NEED TO BRING ONE!!  After the log has been retrieved and signed, please put this cache back together as you found it!
