Geocache Description:

Whilst  caching, I saw this old church and looked for a spot to place a cache.

The St John's Church alongside the Helen Bridge  was opened on 17th July 1872 (  This July it will be 150 Years ) The church has been deconsecrated and is now used as a creche for the local Bruntville children. Due to a lack of care, the building is falling into disrepair. The gaveyard  is unkempt and the graves are being vandalised, but during the spring the wild flowers cover the grounds. The graveyard does have historical importance as the grave of Major General Edward RP Woodgate KGMC GB, ist Batallion Kings Own is there. He was mortally wounded at Spioenkop and died on 25 March 1900.

The cache is not in the wall so do not remove stones from the wall.
