You cannot access the WW2 pill box as it’s off the footpath on private land and purposely in impenetrable brambles, to help the local bat population. Please leave them be. This was one of a series of pill boxes along the river system of Britain and were felt to be a vital ‘backstop’ of defence when the plans were drawn up in the late 1930s. This one was raised above the railway and would have been part of the infrastructure defence for both the rail and river, key elements in the east-west links in pre-war England. The 2022 Mega team are working with the TTTV folks and to find out more about Pill Boxes in the Trent Valley area, why not visit their site and read more? Thanks to the team of the CITO event GC9MDYX, we get to walk along this path without the massive barrier of a fallen tree. You can still see the remains here.
