The Mother Huffcap was not always the only pub in the village of Great Alne. At the corner of Mill Lane and Henley Road is the site of the 18th century Boot Inn. The inn was closed in 1961 and demolished the following year. (Three chalet style houses now stand on the site of the former inn). The land behind the inn became Boot Farm and this continues further down Mill Lane. The farmer was born in The Boot Inn.
