This cache is not at the posted coordinates
For some time now I have wanted to do a geocache that involved the Kennecott smelter smokestack, yet none of my puzzle ideas seemed to be of any value and my idea to place a traditional cache at the top of the smokestack did not come to fruition.
I also had another idea of using the midpoint of two sets of coordinates to go from a starting point to a wholly different location. Eventually, I figured I could combine the two ideas and use the smokestack as the starting point to some other locations using the midpoints of the sets of coordinates.
And that brings us to the tour you are about to embark upon. The way it works is to get the midpoint between two sets of coordinates. Use the midpoint coordinates as the new starting point to get the next midpoint. Use that midpoint as the new starting point etc. Geocaching Toolbox has a tool that can assist you in doing this and is what I used to set the puzzle up.
The starting point is N40 43.295 W112 11.952, which, as you know, is the Kennecott smelter smokestack.
From there you will see:
- not the tallest freestanding structure west of the Mississippi,
- a rhinoceros (in streetview),
- the northern vertex of a triangle,
- the area of more not tallest freestanding structures west of the Mississippi, even if they are higher in altitude,
- the top of a historic landmark,
- and a scenic [street] view, that is really a "scenic view".
Of course, the tour ends there. Luckily that is the location of the cache.
Simple enough, right?
If you need any help let me know and I will be glad to point you in the right direction.
Oh yes! Before I forget, you should have the other coordinates to assist you in getting to those 6 midpoints. Here they are:
N40 32.184 W111 48.224
N41 01.529 W111 48.934
N40 46.996 W111 54.163
N40 45.377 W111 51.211
N41 22.361 W111 55.132
N40 45.560 W111 57.648
N40 15.635 W111 48.422
N40 39.759 W112 30.361
N40 52.241 W111 46.285
N40 56.658 W112 33.914
N40 53.654 W111 34.361
N 40 36.123 W111 47.256
Well, they are somewhere in there.
I guess a checker would help too
