The Wellington Inn, Guyong
The site of Mrs Lister's Wellington Inn on the south-west bank of a branch of Lewis Ponds Creek. An artist's impression of what the inn might have looked like in 1851, superimposed on a recent photograph. Also shown are the well and stables. It was here that main characters met to work together, to find payable gold to begin the Australian goldrush of the 1850s.
Interestingly Peter Luck and his wife ran the Inn before the Lister's. Mrs Luck was killed by bushrangers. The road from Bathurst to Orange at this time was quite dangerous with thieves and bushrangers. When travellers reached this Inn they reached safety, and were at Lucks now. Lucknow is just down the road. There is a lot of contoversy of why Lucknow is called Lucknow. This is one suggestion. The other is a siege in Lucknow, India in 1857, the other is the gold diggings there, Luck now with finding gold.
