This is the bonus cache for the Adventure Lab, Historic Cemetery Stroll.
There is no cache at the given coordinates, but you could park there to do the stroll through the Wakapuaka Cemetery.
You will be at one of the 2 main gates to the cemetery. This, the Garguilo gates, were erected in memory of Italian immigrant Mariano Gargiulo. The other main entrance is through the Adams Memorial Gate
The headland on which the Wakapuaka Cemetery sits is rich in history, trees and Nelson Haven views. It is not the oldest cemetery in Nelson – in fact there are 4 older - but the others are much smaller. Wakapuaka Cemetery opened in 1861 and has the graves and memorials of a number of well known figures.
As well as the 5 locations in the Ad Lab, there are memorials to the victims of the Maungatapu murderers, Trask's Angel, Tobacco Man's Memorial and the Chapel of St Michael. Trask’s Angel watches over the grave of former Mayor, the Tobacco Man (Cecil Conrad Nash) was a pioneer tobacco grower of Nelson, reputedly offered a bribe of thirty five thousand pounds by overseas interests to stop growing tobacco (he refused) and the Chapel is dedicated to Nelson's first Roman Catholic priest. There are caches using some of these locations and a highly recommended Ad Lab finishes at the Maungatapu memorial.
