There are many different types of valleys around the world. all of which are formed by the influence of different forms of water some frozen and others just plain old water. Such as the Glacier valley or U-shaped valley that forms when a Glacier passes through carving out the land. And of course, there's a V-shaped valley like the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. Or the most common type the flat-floored valley forms when a river comes through and carves out a channel-like valley.
V-shaped Valleys
V-shaped valleys, like the Colorado River and Grand Canyon. This is a very well-known example of V-shaped valleys. These types of rivers are very common up in the mountains and hills. These valleys are caused when a river carves into the surrounding areas. Unlike U-shaped valleys, these form over a shorter period, taking roughly 10 thousand to 100 thousand years to form.
U-shaped Valleys
U-shaped valleys are sometimes referred to as trough valleys or more commonly Glacial valleys. The U-shaped it formed when a Glacier ends up taking a stroll through the area. And after said Glacier passes though it will leave a U-shape, henceforth the name U-shaped valley. U-shaped valleys will take anywhere from 10,000 and 100,000 years. These valleys can and will normally be thousands of feet deep and tens of miles long.
Ice thickness is a major contributing factor to valley depth and carving rates. As a glacier moves downhill through a valley, usually with a stream running through it, the shape of the valley is transformed. As the ice melts and retreats, the valley is left with very steep sides and a wide, flat floor. This parabolic shape is caused by glacial erosion removing the contact surfaces with the greatest resistance to flow, and the resulting section minimizes friction.

Flat Floored valleys are the most common type of valley globally. Flat floored valleys form very similar to how River Valleys form with one key difference. That key difference is that Flat Floored Valleys are older and more like a channel, being carved out by a river. Flat Floored Valleys are wide like a U-shaped glacial valley but are carved out by the water, like a V-shaped river valley.
