This cache is located on the other side of the fence where a water tank leaked a licorice smelling chemical into the Elk River in 2014. This leak was not reported by the storage company in a timely fashion and the water company did not act in a timely fashion to deal with the chemical which was being sucked into their system downstream and than widely disceminated to unsuspecting customers. The ultimate result was huge disruption to the drinking water system that impacted 300,000+ people for weeks and court proceedings that led to payouts to all impacted customers. There were many theories regarding why the tank leaked, including sabotage by gunshot from across the river - which was never formally debunked. The final "official" reason was rust on the tank which was undiscovered due to a lack of regulation by state government agencies. The company has since folded, removing the tanks that lined the river in an act which hardly rmoved the memory of a very difficult period for all those impacted. NOTE: What many who lived through this most vividly remember is a press conference held by the President of the chemical storage company on the night of the leak where he drank fancy bottled water over and over and acted put out by reporters questions.
