From MM3, head back down the hill and rejoin the main footpath. Again take care as it is quite steep and can get slippery when wet. Turn left at the bottom and continue through an area where you can see bat boxes hanging on nearby trees. This cache is a little way from the woodland path. You are looking for a small camo-taped rectangular container with just a logbook inside. You will need to bring a pen. Make a note of the letter within as there is a bonus cache.
Whilst bats like to roost in holes in trees, they take very well to artificial roosts too. There are 18 species of bat in the UK, the most common being the Pipistrelle, and 17 of those are known to breed in the UK. Bats account for more than a quarter of mammal species in the UK. Woodlands can provide a good habitat for them if there are suitable nesting sites and food sources. (More detailed information can be found on the Bat Conservation Trust website).
