Sanmyou Station was once the terminus of the Hokuriku Railway Noto Line (total length of 25.5 km from Hakui to Sanmyou), but was closed in 1972 when the Noto Line was discontinued, and is now a rest stop on the Hakui Kenmin bicycle path.
The original plan for the Noto Line was to continue from this station to Wajima via Togi, but due to financial difficulties, the line was never extended beyond this station.

三明駅はかつて存在した北陸鉄道能登線（羽咋より三明までの総延長25.5Km）の終点駅であったが、1972年に能登線の廃線に伴い廃駅となった駅で、現在は羽咋健民自転車道の休憩所となっている。
能登線の当初の計画では当駅よりさらに富来を経て輪島へ至る予定であったが、資金難により当駅から先への延伸は果たせなかった。
