For the last four years the Gibbons, Muir and Pararaha tracks in the Waitakere Ranges were closed.
But on Friday 22 April 2022, the tracks were officially re-opened, a 5.5km upgrade that has taken over 12 months to complete at a cost of $2.34 million.
Part of the Hillary Trail (Section 3) between Whatipu and Karekare (10.2km, 3-5hrs).
Depending on your fitness level and how quickly you want to complete the trail, some do it in one day, others take a more leisurely pace, between four and five days (three to four nights), between Titirangi and Muriwai (75km).
So take your time to enjoy the views, and the upgrades to the track; no more mud, replaced by gravel, steps and boardwalks.
Please keep on the track, and remember to clean your boots at the cleaning stations.
