Fauld Explorer Trail
This rural industrial estate housed factories prior to and during the Second World War. The site has easy access to main ingredient for plaster (gypsum) and a rail connection just to the east (now a simple trackway). During the war high explosives were stored in the deep recesses of the worked-out parts of the nearby gypsum mines until being transported out by rail via another tramway at Coton.
You are now entering Faulds proper and will start to see more and more signs of the former military life of the area. It’s amazing to think that the landscape was dominated by simple pasture and forest for thousands of years, yet one incident so completely transformed the landscape.
When you’ve found and signed the geocache, head up the lane through the industrial estate.
